Are Social Networking Sites Dominating The Game World?
Online gaming has reached a new level in recent years, not only in terms of graphics, but in game play and interaction as well. Games like World Of Warcraft have set the standards high, and paved the way for smaller MMOPRG’s to follow, such as Nodiatis.
But games have been becoming increasingly popular on social networking sites. This unexpected source of interactive gaming may not feature the graphics that we are used to, but they provide hours of entertainment for many, and allow for an increasing amount of interaction between players, both on and off your individual friends list.
A great example of this is the game Mafia Wars, which has quickly moved up into the top ranks of Facebook applications. Allowing you to become a mafia member and then boss, you can play your way to the top by buying property, doing various illegal jobs, and fighting or killing other members.
It has become so popular lately that they are being forced to do a complete overhaul of the game, in order to provide new levels and jobs for those who have played beyond the once esteemed level 35 position.
It is only one example of how Facebook, Myspace, and other social networking sites are becoming known as much for their applications as their social interactions.
